Have you every found yourself in a rut?? Ever get the "blahs" or go through a period you're just not doing the active things that you used to?
Well as a Fitness Professional, I have a confession to make. I'm pulling myself out of that rut...!
Suprise! Yes, Fitness Instructors are Human too.
(The lead up...)
Over the past 5-6 years, I've been dealing with quite alot of issues.
I went into work one day then they quite frankly just announced that I wasn't needed anymore. This was after 9 years of very hard work and dedication that I had put into that place. Suddenly the Manager says "Your job is ABOLISHED. You have 30 minutes to be escorted to get your things then please leave."
Then 2.5 yrs ago, my Father was sick with some complex illnesses. He'd been stable for a few years then suddenly, the treatments just didn't work anymore. He passed away in Sept of 2009.
Two years after that, my Mother passed out for the 2nd time and has since been dealing with her own issues which is also an added stress.
Basically, I've been put through the ringer. I struggled with depression and major psychological issue due to that Company and the way that I was treated. I went through counceling etc to help me figure out what I did wrong! I was very afraid. I was scared to apply anywhere else because I did NOT want to work as hard and be treated like garbage again...!
Well to put it bluntly, I didn't do a damned thing wrong. They where the bullies who had their own agendas. Who have a history of treating their Employees with DIS-respect, a lack of caring and no dignity.
So, throughout those years I seemed to lose my get up and go. I describe it as being in a "FITNESS - FUNK."
To be honest, I am damned tired of it.
This isn't me!
So, over the past month I have made the move to basically get off my ass and get back to business!
I've been making a plan. I am literally writing down what I want to do, how I need to reach my goals.
If you are in your own rut, here are some stratagies which may help.
(The Buddy System...)
Sometimes there are things that you can't do alone. So, get yourself a friend as a support system. Your Buddy can help you map out what you want and how you can get there! The support is awesome <3.
Get yourself a notebook from the Dollar Store
Write down what your goals are. For example: Want to learn to Run. Want to learn to Meditate etc...
Then you need a stratagy. Write down how to go about it. For example: Speak to an experienced runner and find out how to get started. Maybe contact the Running Room to see if there are Running Clinics.
Google Meditation (how to), contact a studio, speak to a Yoga Instructor and ask them how to get started etc.
(Check off what you've achieved on your list...)
You're already starting to make progress in your goals. GOOD FOR YOU!!
Those are just some quick examples of how to get started.
So, over the next few months, I'm going to literally be working my ass off. But, not just with fitness. With other goals as well.
I am no longer at that Company and you know something? All I've been hearing is that it is an uncomfortable, less friendly place to be in and that I am very lucky not to be there anymore. Yes I am...!
Part of my goals are to surround myself with positive people, healthy people, remove myself from bad energy.
A little bit at a time baby...
